Job Title: Mechanical Technician

The Company

API Food Equipment have been supplying the food industry with custom built processing solutions for many years. Our portfolio includes many household name blue chip companies and many smaller private and independent business’s.

Our principle area of expertise is in depositing or filling equipment for bakery and ready meal products and we compliment this with the ability to design and build process solutions that are not available “off the shelf”

The Role:

To carry out assembly and detail fitting of special purpose machinery supplied to the Food Industry

Lead projects appointed to you throughout the build stage on the shop floor

Assist in the commissioning and development of machinery once it has been assembled

Complete basic machining and fabrication of parts as necessary

Liaise with in-house personnel as required to resolve build and design issues

During the course of delivering equipment it may be necessary to work off-site at customer’s facilities both in the UK and overseas, therefore good presentation in front of customers is essential and the flexibility to periodically work off-site is required.

Key Tasks

Build the equipment to the agreed time scale

Assemble and test pneumatic systems, route pneumatic pipes neatly

At times assist electrical build, routing cables etc.

Set all pneumatic cylinders and reed switches prior to development

Manually check operation of each element of the process prior to development

Ensure the equipment is kept clean and damage free during the build, equipment to be built to a high standard of care and presentation

Assist in support of installed equipment at customer's site.

Candidate Profile:

Due to the nature of this role this position requires an experienced Mechanical Fitter with sound knowledge and understanding of assembling machinery.

The ideal candidate will have completed an appropriate recognised engineering apprenticeship with corresponding qualifications

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings is essential

Experience of building special purpose machinery or similar precision mechanical machinery

Good knowledge & understanding of mechanical principles

Experience of general machining

Experience of fabrication

Experience & understanding of pneumatic systems

Knowledge & experience of electrical wiring, with appropriate qualification would be an advantage

Experience working within a food processing equipment environment essential.
